For the Chicken Livers:

  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional, for marinade)

For the Coating:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup cornmeal (optional for extra crunch)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil (for deep or pan frying)

1. Prep the Livers

  • Rinse and pat dry the chicken livers.

  • In a bowl, whisk the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.

  • Add livers to the mixture and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight in the fridge for deeper flavor).

2. Prepare the Coating

  • In a shallow bowl, mix flour, cornmeal (if using), and all spices until well combined.

3. Coat the Livers

  • Remove livers from marinade, letting excess drip off.
